HØSTET

HØSTET is the first organically certified sea buckthorn plantation in Denmark. It is owned and operated by Camilla and Mads Meisner, who moved to Bornholm in 2009. Camilla and Mads give high priority to good taste, and they try to use all parts of the plant as sustainably as possible so that nothing goes to waste. Everything is organically certified, and all HØSTET products are made in their own production kitchen at Fløjlegaard Farm in Ibsker.

The interior of the farm shop at the plantation is beautifully adorned with wood from the local sawmill Østerlars Savværk. The shop sells HØSTET’s entire selection of jam, juice, syrup, flakes, beer, schnapps, soap, oil and new skincare products from BETTE’s Skincare, made using HØSTET’s own sea buckthorn oil.

Information about ‘Drinks in the countryside’, guided tours of the plantation, cooperation projects and much more about sea buckthorn can be found on the website.

Friday drinks in the country

HØSTET is also very fond of collaborating with other skilled producers to develop new products using sea buckthorn. Most of these products can be found on the farm shop’s shelves. In addition, HØSTET also supplies some of Denmark’s best restaurants, which is both an educational process for HØSTET and a confirmation of HØSTET’S high quality and delicious flavours. All of HØSTET’s own products are hand-made in its own production kitchen at the farm.

Friday afternoon drinks in the countryside… what’s that? Enjoying delicious drinks containing sea buckthorn in the afternoon sun at Fløjlegård Farm is a unique opportunity. Drinks are served, and there are guided tours of the plantation, with sea buckthorn stories and lots of socialising – every Friday afternoon from 28 June and continuing throughout July and August.

Group taste testing tours

HØSTET welcomes groups outside ordinary opening hours. Parties of 15 to 60 can book guided tours of the sea buckthorn plantation, with lots of storytelling followed by sampling of delicious biscuits with cheese and jam, as well as various beverages.

The sea buckthorn plantation in Ibsker is organically certified. This makes the most sense for people and the environment, and the roots of the sea buckthorn plant have nitrogen-fixing nodules which mean that the plants do not require additional fertiliser. Another characteristic of sea buckthorn is that it is a dioecious plant, meaning that the bushes can be either male or female. Only female bushes produce berries.

Sea buckthorn is a “super fruit” with a particularly high content of vitamins, anti-oxidants and omega fatty acids. To preserve these healthy nutrients, it is important to freeze the sea buckthorn berries immediately after harvesting. This is done by severing the branches with berries and freezing them. After being frozen for 4–5 days, the berries and leaves can be threshed off.

HØSTET is a must-see site for food enthusiasts or anyone looking for an interesting trip to the countryside.
